Close Solana accounts when you have 0 SOL

Reclaiming rent from an empty token account costs a network fee. If your wallet balance is zero you cannot pay that fee — so the SOL stays locked, and every other wallet cleaner tells you to deposit SOL first. BetterClaimSol pays the fee for you.

The problem, plainly

Every SPL token account on Solana holds a rent deposit — roughly 0.002 SOL — that is returned when the account is closed. A wallet that has held a lot of airdrops, dust and scam tokens can have tens of accounts sitting on real money.

Closing them is a transaction, and a transaction needs a fee payer with a balance. That is the trap: you need SOL to get your SOL back. Drained wallets, abandoned burner wallets and post-scam wallets are all stuck in it.

How we get around it

  1. You connect and we scan the wallet. Nothing is signed and nothing is sent yet.
  2. If your balance is below 0.000001 SOL (1,000 lamports), our service wallet is set as the transaction's fee payer instead of yours.
  3. You sign the transaction. It closes your accounts and returns the rent to you. We co-sign it so the network fee comes out of our wallet, not yours.
  4. Our cut — 20% of the rent recovered — is a transfer inside that same transaction. You can see the exact amount before you sign.

We never hold your funds. The rent goes from the closed accounts straight to your wallet in one transaction. We add a signature so the fee is charged to us; we cannot move anything else, and the transaction we co-sign is the one you approved — the backend checks a hash of it before signing.

The gasless premium is the whole cost of the feature: we are fronting a fee that may not be recovered if the transaction fails. Full breakdown, with real transactions you can inspect, on the fees page.

What you need

  • A Solana wallet — Phantom, Solflare, Coinbase, Ledger, Trezor or Coin98.
  • Nothing else. No deposit, no top-up, no bridging, no account.

Questions

Do I really not need any SOL?

Correct. If your balance is under 1,000 lamports we pay the network fee. You end the transaction with more SOL than you started with, having spent none.

What if my wallet has a tiny amount of SOL, but not enough?

A balance at or above 1,000 lamports counts as funded, so you pay the network fee yourself — typically well under 0.0001 SOL — and our cut is 10% rather than 20%. Below 1,000 lamports we cover the fee.

Which accounts can be closed?

Any SPL token account holding a zero balance, including Token-2022 accounts. Accounts that still hold tokens can be emptied first with the burn tool, which destroys the tokens and then closes the account. Burning is irreversible, so it is meant for dust and scam tokens rather than anything you want to keep.

Is this safe?

Every action needs your signature, keys never leave your wallet, and no funds are held by us at any point. The amounts are shown before you approve anything, and our backend will only add its signature to a transaction whose contents match the one it built for you.

What does it cost if there is nothing to reclaim?

Nothing. If there is nothing to reclaim there is no transaction and no fee.
